The hotshot newspaper reporter Wallace Cook (Fredric March) tries to get in the good graces of his boss, Oliver Stone (Walter Connolly) by exploiting the "imminent" death of an ailing young woman, Hazel Flagg (Carole Lombard).
By way of newsprint the doomed young lady becomes the toast of New York City until her health situation is revealed as a hoax.

IMHO one of the best comedies that went into Public Domain.
The funny story telling by William A. Wellman and the great cast makes this one an highly enjoyable A Class Movie.

If you watch the movie carefully you`ll notice that William Wellman tries to took the already pretty face of Carole Lombard and place it into an high contrast frame which makes her face and mimic even more enjoyable to watch
like in this take for example

Nice idea and Chapo Mr. Wellman

Subject: Carole Lombard in Color
I greatly enjoyed seeing this movie if only to watch Carole Lombard in color.

By today's standard the film is dated but considering it's over 75 years old, it holds up well for a romantic comedy.

Lombard has good comedic timing and is a beauty to behold. There are some outtakes at the archive.org site and you can see why Clark Gable deeply loved her. There are some excellent high contrast scenes of her portrait that is worth viewing for that alone. Maybe I have an infatuation with Lombard, if so it's a good one that I'm happy to have.

The lead male doesn't really equal Lombard in skills or talent.

The supporting cast ia adequate but nothing special.

Production values were decent.

Overall the film needs a good restoration as the Technicolor is showing its limits on the version I watched.

Subject: Colour
"I have seen this before in B&W. I assume this is a colorized version?"

Wikipedia says it was filmed in technicolor, the less-than-amazing colour probably comes from the transfer noted by the uploader. Still, awesome film.

Subject: Great movie
I have seen this before in B&W. I assume this is a colorized version? I'll watch it again anyway. This is a pre-Code film, and an example of what Hollywoood could do when not restrained by prudes. Really funny.

Subject: Great comedy!
This film is a great little romantic comedy from the more 'innocent' age of film. Peppered throughout the film are several naughty bits, though rather tame by today's standards. Look for the Dutch girl giving us the finger.

Nicely shot, some nice biting comic remarks and well-acted for the genre. I know I've missed many things, I need to watch this one a couple more times.

Subject: Great movie, so-so upload
Is there any way to upload a higher resolution copy? Even on the computer screen this is foggy-looking. But at least it has colour - my old print is faded to sepia. Sad what happens to public domain movies.

Aside from that - this is one of the great comic classics, never get tired of it.
